First Project Done
Here’s my first knitting project complete. I like it but it is a “one size fits most adults” and I’m not most adults, so my husband has claimed the hat. The seam isn’t perfect at all. It’s really obvious that it was my first seam, but I have to say it’s not bad for a first time. I may make another one, for myself, adjusting the pattern so it comes out smaller. But there’s another hat pattern I want to try (H2O Hat). A friend has requested it. I also want to work on my afghan. I had planned to get half of it done before starting another knit project, but I doubt that will happen. I will probably start my legwarmers sometime this week.
In the Spotlight
I’m very pleased to say that my knitting blog, In Stitches, has been chosen as a Spotlight Site for February by my host, Bloghosts. Hopefully this will bring in a few more visitors, maybe a few knitters. I’ve never had a problem with my host. Jace has always been very helpful and prompt whenever I had an issue I needed to resolve. My site is rarely down and the pricing is great. I have no complaints. I have been extremely happy with Bloghosts in the year that I’ve been with them and I am in the processing of moving another site I maintain (for a non-profit org) to them for hosting.
Thank you Jace and everyone else at Bloghosts for chosing my blog.
Basket o' Yarn
Here’s my basket of yarn. I was given this basket as a wedding present. It was supposed to be a picnic basket…complete with a sandwich recipe book. But I’ve decided it’s just perfect for all of my knitting projects.
I currently have three projects in it. Oh, you can also see my progress on the rib hat right in front. It’s that khaki yarn. I’ve made it to 5 inches. Only 6 more to go then I start on the crown. I’m hoping to get it done this weekend.
My husband is going camping again Saturday, and I have to finish watching season 1 of CSI because it’s due back at Blockbuster, so I’ll have plenty of time to work on it. I like how it’s coming out so far, and this is my first official knitting project.
Soon, very soon
I just have to post an early congrats to Heather, who is off to the hospital for induced labor. I wish her and John all the best and look forward to a possible photo of the little one.
In other news, my husband’s boss has taken a job elsewhere. So there will be changes to his department. Hopefully they will be good changes that my husband can live with. If not, he’ll be looking for another job. Remember all that stress he had last Christmas. Well, if the changes are not good, he’ll be in that kind of stress again. Of hating his job and wanting to quit. I hope whatever happens is something he can deal with until he finds something else and won’t be the mess that eats him up like before. I’m crossing my fingers. He said there may be some hope, so I’m hanging on that thread till we hear what exactly will be happening now that the boss is leaving.
I do think it’s great for the boss. He’s a great guy and after just having a baby in December, he deserves a job where he’ll be able to spend more time with his wife and son. This new job sounds like just the thing, so I congratulate him, even though it may throw a wrench in our lives.
Break Already?
I haven’t had time to knit this week. I did so much over the weekend and it was great, but then the week arrived and I’ve been busy. I did check out our local Hancock Fabrics. The just recently got in almost the entire line of Lion Brand Yarn and needles. Which is pretty good. It’s one more store to check out when I need yarn for a project. It’s affordable yarn and apparently it’s popularity is increasing. It’s like each of the 5 stores carries a specific yarn that the other 4 doesn’t. So hopefully this weekend, I’m going to visit each and jot down pricing for what they have. That way, I’ll have a reference guide, so I can just pull it up and see which store has the yarn I’m wanting and how much it costs. I’m hoping to work on some knitting and crochet tonight, but I’m just not sure I’ll have time. This week has been a busy one. I can’t wait to get back to it.
I like crocheting with the Homespun. By crocheting, I’m learning that you have to do it loosely for the yarn to work. So, if I can learn to knit looser than I have been, I may be able to use Homespun for some things. I found this great sweater jacket that I’d love to make. There is a crochet version and a knit version. I’ll try the knit first and if I still haven’t mastered looser knitting, I’ll just crochet it. I would prefer to knit…you don’t get the holes that come with crochet. But with the Homespun, I’ve noticed that the holes are much smaller. And that Homespun works up pretty quick. So maybe in the near future I can try to make the jacket.
