Spring Fling Begins

I didn’t do too much knitting this weekend. We painted our front entrance. More redecorating. But I did manage to swatch for spring fling and work out the pattern. I attempted cast on three times last night and it just wasn’t right. Either too much yarn or too little or the other cast on just didn’t look right. So I think I got it this time. I started again and will hopefully get a good bit done today. I look forward to seeing my tank become a tank.

More decorating fun

My sister-in-law came for the weekend and ended up putting us to work. My husband mentioned that we wanted to strip the wallpaper in the entrance. She said, “Sure, let’s do it.” I don’t think he was thinking right that minute, but she grabbed the paper and started peeling. So we ended up ripping wallpaper, priming and painting the entrance. It is the color of coffee with lots of creamer. It’s really great. We also changed the light fixture. We’ve been really busy this weekend, when our original plan was to do absolutely nothing. But I love the end results.

Oh yeah. I finally got my new stove. Ceramic-glass cooktop. It is fabulous. I love cooking on it. Now we have to finish fixing up the kitchen…the countertops, refinishing the cabinets and painting the walls.

Winder

Oh, I really need a yarn winder. I’ve been having to hand wind the yarn I’m using for spring fling and it’s such a pain. My first try was a disaster. Now it’s better but a winder would be easier than trying to hold it in my hand. Of course, the swift would also come in handy, but I can live with putting it on the back of a chair for now. So far all I’ve worked with are center pull skeins, so I haven’t really had to worry about winding, but maybe one of these days I’ll have to splurge and get one. :)

Afghan Beginnings

Crochet Afghan

Here’s the first square of a crochet afghan I’ve started. It requires 35 squares that will be pieced together. I had originally planned on knitting this afghan, but after working with the yarn (Lion Brand Homespun), I feel I can crochet with it much better than I can knit with it. So I am crocheting the afghan. I also decided that the scarf I was knitting with this same yarn will also be crocheted instead of knitted. For me, its just easier. I am liking so far how it’s turning out.

Tri-Colored Yarn

Funcky Square

See what has happened to my yarn? Can you see the stripes? That is the same dye lot (not the cream part). Maybe I got the skeins that were dyed last in that lot. And the brown color was running out so it became a pinkish color. Even within one skein, it is mostly green, somewhere in the middle for a few yards it goes back to how it should be (an even blend of greens and browns) then goes back to mostly green with a pinkish tone. It’s very weird. Maybe that’s what I get for buying a slighty inferior yarn? It’s Lion Brand Homespun. All my skeins are the same dye-lot and the big color difference is also within the same strand of yarn! So even though I made sure I got the same dye lot, it didn’t make any difference in this project. I guess it really wants to be multi-colored.

The sidebar

As you can tell, I’m trying to build up a sidebar again. I’m just not sure what to put in it. I may keep it simple and just leave what is there now. I just don’t see the point of recent entries or recent comments, even though I used to have them. I could put my blog roll in there, but I am constantly reorganizing it and I don’t want to offend anyone if they are on it then suddenly they aren’t. I read many blogs on and off, so several of my reads are constantly disappearing from and re-appearing on the list. I’m also thinking of maybe reorganizing my category associations. Lately I’ve been throwing all my entries into one category, but I’m wondering if I should separate them back out.

Oh, I’m back to this indecision thing again. I know your thinking…here she goes again. I was doing so well. I don’t know what happened.

Update (Mar 12 2004): At Sara’s suggestion, I installed PHP Currently, and it is fabulous. It makes it so easy to update my sidebar. I think I could also use it for other things such as the about me page.
