Vacationing

My vacations plans have been axed. I was planning to go to Texas to see my family while my husband is on a week-long canoe trip with his father and some other guys. But my boss has decided that that is when he’s going to take vacation. Since there is only the two of us in our department, that means I get to stay home by myself while everyone else is away. Then I thought fine, I’ll try to go to Texas some other time, but my parents are moving to Florida in July, so they are very busy with trying to pack and get things ready to move. Since my dad had to take disability while he was in the hospital in Florida, they are behind. With all that they’ve got going on right now, I’d rather not get in the middle of it all, so I will wait till they are settled in Florida before trying to spend a week with them.

I need to find somewhere else to go by myself, hopefully sometime in July or August. My husband can’t take too much time off and he’s getting to take his vacation this year. I’d take my sister with me but she’s in school plus she’s spending most of July in Spain (doing a semester abroad). I don’t have any close girlfriends that I could plan a vacation with, so I’m on my own with no where to go.

I’d like somewhere I can hang out and read books, knit and whatever else I feel like. I’d like some things to see wherever I go, but not a packed trip that would leave no time to breathe. And I can’t go to Europe…the hubby says I can’t go without him. This came up because I mentioned I’ll go to Spain and see my sister. He cried out, “NO! Not with out me.” So I have no idea where to take my vacation this year, but it keep looking more and more like I won’t get one.

Anyone got any suggestions on where I could go to read, knit and relax. Maybe see a few sights. Not too expensive either.

Blocking

My booga bag is blocking. But I forgot to take the before pictures. So far I’m happy with my first felting attempt. I will take a photo once it’s finished blocking and I’ve added the strap. I just ordered 2 knitting books from Amazon and the box they came in is the perfect size for blocking the bag. I guess I was meant to get those books. I got Knitting in Plain English and the Knitter’s Guide to Finishing Techniques. I’ve already used the finishing book to check on a decrease for Sigma. I think I’ll keep the box in case I decide to make another bag.

Booga Almost Done

My Booga Bag is almost done. All I have to do is felt it. I’ll post before and after pics once it’s felted. I love it so far. I can’t wait to see what it looks like once I’m finished. I’ve worked on nothing else, but can’t wait to get back to Sigma. I’m ready to get a move on it, so I can finally start swatching Chamomile.

On Hiatus

This site is on hiatus while I update and migrate to Textpattern or WordPress. Be back eventually. In the meantime visit my knitting blog. I haven’t yet decided if it will make the switch also. Till I decide, it will stay as is.

I just like the fact that neither of these require rebuilds. Hopefully I won’t be gone too long.

Chamo-along

Becky has decided to knit Chamomile with me, so we have our own little knit-along. If anyone would like to join, I’ll be happy to start up a knit-along with buttons and all. I’m hoping we can start next week, but if I get more people that are interested we may start a little later to allow folks to get the pattern and yarn. I’m looking forward to knitting this with her.

Also, I cheated and started my Booga Bag. I’ve finished the bottom and have started on the “wall” of the bag. I am really liking the color I chose and the stripes it is making. I can’t wait to get it done and felt it. I hope to work on it some tonight. I think I can get it done in a few days. Then I’ll post pics of my progress.

And yes, I FINALLY started on the shaping of Sigma. Hurray! I’ve only done about 8 rows into the back, but at least I’ve made it. It doesn’t seem so daunting now. I will definitely be working on it hard-core this weekend. I was getting really frustrated last night trying to purl. I felt so clumsy and couldn’t figure out a way to hold the yarn. Then I tried putting it around my neck and it seemed to go much better and quicker. So I will be purling around the neck from now on. I just don’t know what I’ll do when I have to do ribbing on Chamomile. I couldn’t get a grip on the yarn with either hand. Any suggestions on what I could try? I sort of feel silly holding the yarn around my neck, but last night it was the only way.

Another HI Weekend

We’ve spent another weekend doing Home Improvement. But it feels great to be getting done some of the things we’ve been saying we need to do. We put up the crown molding in the living room. So that room is finally complete. We can check it off our HI to-do list.

We bought the paint, hinges and doorknobs to do the kitchen cabinets. Of course we couldn’t find any cheap white knobs so we bought wooden ones. Yep, I have to paint 20 little knobs. But oh well. We are repainting the cabinets in white. The next step will be to replace the countertops, and peel the wallpaper so we can paint the walls. Then we’ll be done with the kitchen and can move onto the front bathroom.

We were talking about it yesterday and my hubby said, by the time we finish all home improvement, we’ll end up in a situation where we’ll move. Then we’ll have to start all over in a new house. Well, you know…that’s part of owning a home. But at least our house will be prettier when we decide to sell it.

My parents are finally going back home from their unexpected extended stay in Florida. Dad is doing great. His pacemaker is working overtime though. The doctors said that usually you have to change the battery around 10-12 years. Dad’s will most likely have to be changes around 8 years because it is working so hard. Apparently he really needed that pacemaker. His dizziness is much better. He saw an audiologist who did some things to his ears. He’s not sure what, but he said whatever they did worked, because he hasn’t been getting dizzy. I’m so glad he’s doing better. So they are coming up Wednesday and will stay with us for 2 days before heading on to Texas.
