I think my gauge has changed since I started my homespun crochet afghan. When I started working on it, I was making the stitches loose, because I wasn’t familiar with Homespun and it kept splitting and pulling. I’ve now made about 15 squares and I’m getting used to the nuances of the yarn. Without realizing it my stitches are tighter. Where I should be getting 8 inch wide blocks, they are coming out 7-7.5 inches wide. Should I change hook sizes or add the # of stitches I need to get the right size? I made one square the right size by adding the needed stitches, but I’m not sure if this would make a difference in the end when I piece all the squares together. I’m wondering if I just add stitches if those sections it will end up too thick when pieced together? So maybe I should do one square in a larger hook and see how it looks. Any suggestions on what I should do? I’m hoping that my smaller squares will size up when I block them. But I don’t want all my squares to be too small. I’d like to get back on track.

Weekend Summary
My weekend was pretty good. We spent most of the weekend hanging out with the hubby’s cousin (SB) and her boyfriend. She and I went shopping for a rug and some table runners. She’s decorating and needed some accesories. Saturday night, we watched Radio. It was a really good movie and I think Cuba Gooding Jr did an excellent job. Ed Harris was great too. Sunday was extremely lazy. I did a bit of knitting and completed another square for my crochet afghan. I picked up a retractable measuring tape and it’s the best thing. Last night we watched Queen of the Damned since it just happened to be on. My hubby just spent most of the day sleeping. The time change had him all messed up.
Other than that I didn’t do much else. My SIL comes up Wednesday, but she’ll be busy all day Thursday and may be going home Friday so we won’t be spending much time with her while she’s here. She’s got a board meeting that she’s coming up for. Then DH’s aunt (SB’s mom) comes up Thursday and will be in town till Sunday so we may be spending some time with them this weekend.
Dad is doing much better but he still has to stay in Florida for a few more weeks. Oh and grandpa (Mom’s dad) gave us a scare this weekend. Apparently he and grandma got into a huge fight so he packed a bag and walked out. My mom’s cousin found him walking on the side of the street halfway across town! Needless to say, mom was a wreck and her blood pressure was out the roof. I haven’t gotten all the details but I think they worked everything out. Poor grandpa…he’s just had enough with that wife of his. She drives everyone crazy. It’s bad when all my cousins are calling up my parents and telling them not to stay with the grandparents while they are stuck in FL. My sister warned her boyfriend about my grandmother before they got down there and he thought she was just exagerating. She tends to go overboard a little. When he got here he got to see first hand just how infuriating my grandmother is and realized she was telling the truth about her.
Kureyon
I’ve ordered the yarn for my Booga Bag. Yahoo! This is my first order from ThreadBear and I must say…it was so easy and Rob was so nice. I will definitely be doing business with him again. I can’t wait to get my Kureyon and start working on my bag.
Booga Bag
Yes, I’m considering making a Booga Bag. I’ve checked all the online stores I know, plus my LYS and none of them have Kureyon in any of the colors I want. So I may have to wait a few weeks. The owner of the LYS said she should be getting a new shipment in about 2 weeks. Her price is the same as the shops online, so I may have to just get some from what’s in stock at Jimmy Bean’s Wool or Royal Yarns. But I’m tired of carrying around my knitting projects in plastic bags. I usually just carry one small project, and none of the bags I currently have are small enough…they are all too big. So I thought I’d try a Booga Bag.
I have attempted another join on my tank top, using Alison’s advice and The Knit Stitch. We’ll see what happens. I can’t tell yet until I go all the way around one or two times. So far it looks like it might work though. Yeah! I can continue my tank and hopefully get some major progress done on it this weekend.
Geek Code
The new edition of “Knitty.com”:http://www.knitty.com has an article explaining the Knitter’s Geek Code. So of course, I had to go through it and figure out what my code would be. Since I’m a beginner, it is slightly depressing and was hard to figure some of it out, but here’s what I came up with:
——- BEGIN KNITTER’S GEEK CODE BLOCK ——
Version 1.1
KCmR- Exp- SPM->++ Bam+(-)@ Alum+(-) Pl>- Wool+@ Cot+ Stash-> Scale–>++ Fin->+ Ent? FI? Int?>+ Tex?>+ Lace? Felt?>+ Flat>++(-) Circ+>++ !DPN> ML? Swatch>++ KIP->++ Blog+++ SNB– EZ? FO- WIP– GaugeDK(W)(S) ALTCr+X+SW–>Wv
——- END KNITTER’S GEEK CODE BLOCK ——
I had to wrap the lines so that it would all show up, but you get the idea. I will do it again in a year or two if I remember and see how much it’s changed since the beginning. That will be interesting to see. Have you figured out your Knitter’s Geek Code yet?
