Here is my dishcloth. It’s not quite finished yet, but I thought I’d post a pic anyway. I’m making this one for mom for her birthday since she is the one that gave me the booklet with the patterns. I’m also going to start her out making one of the dishcloths in the book. It has 16 patterns and most them are pretty simple pattern repeats. Why all the photos now? My hubby is going on his canoe trip this weekend and he might be taking all the camera batteries, so I won’t be able to take any photos for the week that he’ll be gone. So I’m trying to get in all the photos I want before he leaves on Saturday.

Sleeve One Finished
Sigma Redo
I just didn’t like how Sigma turned out because of my shaping (it was all messed up). I’ve been thinking of ripping it back to the beginning of the shaping and starting over from there. I still have 1 1/2 balls of yarn left over plus what I’d rip out so I should have enough yarn to redo. But since I’ve blocked it, I’m not sure how that will affect it. It’s 100% cotton, but I it didn’t shrink when I wet it. Would it be safe to rip back and do over?
A New Do
Saturday, I went and got pampered. I got my nails done. Actually I had the acrylic stuff removed. I was getting tired of it and was ready to go back to my real nails. I also went and got my hair done. Not a drastic hair cut, but a drastic change nonetheless. I got my hair straightened. Yes, it’s board straight now. I like it so far, but I haven’t washed it yet. Can’t wash it for 2 days after (like a perm) so I can’t wash it till tonight. That will be the real test.
For some reason, when I get my hair straightened, it looks great for the few days after then it all goes downhill as soon as I wash it. So I’m hoping this time it will hold, since I had it done at the salon instead of doing it myself with the $3.95 Wal-Mart kit. LOL! My husband was worried I was going to come home with no hair…that it would be so short. I told him there was no way I’d cut my hair. I love it long, but I was tired of it looking so gross and frizzy.
In other weekend news, I watched three movies yesterday. Yes, I was a couch potato, but I actually got some house cleaning done too and I’m almost finished with the laundry. I watched Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, Le Divorce, and Bend it Like Beckham. I was disappointed with Tad Hamilton. I was hoping that Rosie would change Tad for the better, but in the end, he was the same guy. Le Divorce was good. But it had Kate Hudson, so of course it was good. She’s just too cute! Bend It was pretty good. I didn’t catch the beginning so I was slightly confused as to who Beckham was at first, but it turned out to be a great movie.
I didn’t get much knitting done this weekend like I had planned to. I spent most of Saturday out. After I got my nails and hair done, we went out to eat and went drinking with friends. Got home and went to bed. Sunday, I watched all those movies and cleaned house while the hubby was out playing disc golf. Finally, around 5 I was able to sit down and do a little knitting. But I had a pretty good weekend.
Next weekend my parents are in town and my DH leaves for his canoe trip. I’m still deciding if I want to go to Jubilee and see Keith Urban. He doesn’t hit the stage till 10:15pm, and I don’t know if I want to go out anyway with my parents visiting. I may try to convince my sister to go with me. Who knows. I’d love to see Keith Urban though.
Spouse and Knitting
What does your spouse or significant other think of your knitting? Mine doesn’t really have an opinion on my knitting persay, but he does tease me about finishing other projects whenever I pick one up. If I pick up Chamomile, he tells me I need to finish the dishcloth for mom, etc. He doesn’t really gripe when I tell him I picked up some more yarn or another knitting book. He just says it figures. I guess he realizes those are my hobbies and he has his own that he spends money on, so he can’t argue too much. When I’m frustrated about it, he’s encouraging or he sympathizes.
He tells me what he thinks about what I’m working on. He isn’t one to say he likes it, just to please me. If he doesn’t like, he tells me. It can be rough sometimes, but at least he’s honest about it. He doesn’t gripe about all my knitting bags cluttering the corner in the living room. I have about 4 bags there with the various projects I’m working on, plus patterns scattered over the end table and odds and ends that I use while I’m knitting (ie. measuring tape, scissors, etc.).
When I was stressing over what to do when my vacation plans got cancelled, he was the one that suggested I look up the LYS where my SIL lives to see if they were having classes I could sign up for and spend a week with her knitting. So he encourages my hobbies. He never once complained about how much money I spent on books a month before I started knitting. Yes, knitting cut down on my reading and book buying habit. Now I buy yarn and spend more time knitting than reading. But he is supportive of my recently aquired hobby. I’d never make him anything, because he isn’t the type to wear sweaters or scarves or knitted socks, but that’s okay. Mom and Nez (my sister) will appreciate my little knitted gifts. And of course that means more time to knit stuff for myself.
Sleeve Issue Resolved
With Sarah’s help and one more look in The Purl Stitch, I figured out what was wrong. I should’ve been doing the SSP at the end of the row so it lines up with the SSK that I did at the beginning of the previous row, and the P2tog at the beginning so it lines up with the K2tog. I ripped those rows and redid my decreases (for a third time!) and it worked out like I expected it to. Finally. I spent the day frustrated because I couldn’t figure it out. But then I tried to visualize how the stitches would lay and it clicked. It also helped that the pictures in The Purl Stitch, shows them being worked in the correct places in the row. So it dawned on me what was going wrong. Now I can continue working on my sleeve and maybe I’ll have it finished this weekend. I think I will cast on immediately for the 2nd sleeve instead of leaving till after I do the front or back.
