The Gym

I’ve been going to the gym for almost 3 whole weeks now. So far I haven’t noticed any change. But I’m going 3 times a week. Well, ok. Last week, I only went twice, but that was after the dreadful canoe trip where I cut and bruised my foot. I still can only wear certain shoes. My favorites are out for now. :(

My exercise consists of 3-5 min warmup on the bike. Then I’m off to do some weights. I do arm and thigh conditioning. I generally tend to do one set of 12-15 reps. Sometimes, depending on how much it’s burning, I’ll try to do another set on the machine. The weights vary by machine, so I can’t really say. Then I go do a cardio workout on the treadmill. I started out doing 10 minutes then bumped it up to 20. Now I’m trying for 2 miles…which ends up being about 30-45 minutes depending on how fast I’m walking. Once my legs have turned to jelly, I go do a gazillion crunches. Technically it’s 5 different positions on the ab bench, doing 15 reps. But again, depending on how much it burns, I try to do more…that’s the part that I’m trying to work on the most. That and my thighs, so I do a lot of reps on the thigh machine also. There’s 2 other ab machines that I also do 1-2 sets of 12-15 reps. Then…I may do some more reps on the weight machines, or I’ll jump back on the bike for another 5 minutes, or I’ll just go chill out in the sauna for about 20 minutes.

It’s very interesting…that you burn 300 calories just sitting in the sauna for 20 minutes. So I spend about 1 to 1 1/2 hours in the gym. I’m doing great and I enjoy doing it. I just hope to see some progress soon. After 30 days, I will get measured again. Then we’ll see if I’ve made any progress.

When they measured me the first day, I was in average for percentage of body fat…so that’s pretty good. But I’d actually like to see some slimming down on my upper arms, my thighs and my stomach. Those are my main focus areas. And I’m definitely working them. I make sure to do as many reps and I can handle. But I’m not going nuts about it. I know I can’t be superwoman, so I’m actually being reasonable and not pushing myself too much. I understand that it will take time.

Switched

If you haven’t noticed already, I’ve switched back to “Movable Type”:http://www.movabletype.org. I felt it was a better choice for what I wanted to do. So far, I’m happy that I switched back, even though I miss not having to rebuild. Oh well. Each system has it’s own pros and cons and you just have to weigh them out and see which fits you better. So here it is. I hope to fix up my gallery of completed projects in the next couple of weeks. I like what “Becky”:http://countrygirlzine.us has done with her gallery, but I’m not sure I like that layout.

In knitting news, I haven’t been knitting much since I’ve been trying to get my website all set up. But I have managed to finish a few more crochet squares for my afghan. I think I only have about 10 or 11 more to go. I can’t wait to get it finished. I just need to quit doing other useless stuff and get knitting. LOL!

First Sock

First Sock Progress

Here is the progress of my first sock ever. I think it’s coming out great. I’ve actually gotten past the heel and am on the main foot part already, but this photo was obviously taken before that. Whenever I do finish it, I’ll post a picture so you can see how it turned out. I can’t wait to try it on. :)

Chamomile Sleeves

Chamomile Sleeves

Here’s my completed sleeves. I finished them a few weeks ago during my knitting retreat, but just now have found time to post the picture. I did start on the front, but haven’t gotten far. I haven’t even made it past the ribbing yet, but I’ll get back to it soon. I’m just really glad that my sleeves came out identical. I was so worried that one would end up shorter than the other or something would be terribly off, but look, they match! Yeah!

Busy Life

Ever since I came back from my vacation, I’ve been so buy that I’ve only knit one time. I made two squares for my crochet afghan. Ok, so that’s not really knitting, but it counts. I just got a new eMac, so I’ve been playing with it. I also joined a gym so I’m going there 3 times a week after work. Plus I’ve aquired some website projects that I’d like to get done. I’ve got pictures of my progress from my vacation that I still have to post, but haven’t had time. I’d like to get back to my knitting and crochet and I plan to after I finish the book I’m currently reading.

But seeing as how life is just taking over, I’ll probably not be updating this site as much as I used to. I’ve resolved not to try to compete with all you women who are speed demon knitters. I’m just going to go at my own pace. When I have progress to show, I’ll post. But I’m not going to try to do the marathon. My life just doesn’t allow for it. The site will stay up for now, so I can keep track of my projects, but it isn’t going to be “hopping” unfortunately. I do hope you’ll all still visit from time to time to see what’s going on.

If you are part of the Chamomile knit-along, please send me emails of your progress or completion. I’ve been so busy, I haven’t even really had time to visit my regular knit reads. :( I’m so out of the loop, it’s sad. But I’m having fun with all the stuff that is keeping me busy elsewhere. So I guess that is something.
