Oh Mama!

Amelia started babbling “mama” this morning. It’s so cute!! I’m not sure she means me yet, but it’s still music to my ears, of course. :)

I think she’s finally getting over her cold, minus the massive congestion that has her gagging a little. She was definitely acting herself last night, even giving me tons of kisses and she went to bed without hardly a fuss.

She’s also been happier when I leave her at daycare. No crying anymore when I leave her there. The past few days, she’s been smiling and playing when I leave, which is more like her.

But that’s another frustration I have…daycare. I love that she gets the interaction with the other kids. It’s great and since I have no choice, seeing that I have to work, I’m happy with the daycare we’ve chosen. But…

It frustrates me so much that she’s constantly sick. I hate it. I feel bad for her and I end up missing so much work because I have to keep her at home. It’s very unproductive and it irritates me because I know if she wasn’t at daycare every day, she’s probably rarely be sick. As it happens, she’s almost constantly got some bug. But what else can I do. I can’t quit my job and I can’t afford private care, even if I knew of any in the area.

I guess there’s pros and cons to every situation and you do the best you can, but I can’t help but feel guilty. I’m a mom.

Crochet Gauge Headache

I’m having so much trouble getting gauge on my sister’s afghan. The pattern suggests hook size K. When I swatch for gauge, I’m not getting enough stitches or rows. I tried using an L hook and it seemed like I had too many stitches per inch, so I went back to the K. But last night I got fed up with it and tried again with L and it seems now that I short with L also. Agh! I can’t figure out what size hook to use. Either way, I don’t have nearly enough rows per inch and my stitches per inch is slightly short too.

I need to go to Michael’s at lunch anyway, so I’m going to look for an M and maybe try it. If that doesn’t work, I may have to just go with the L and make a conscious effort to make looser stitches. Last night I was making an effort to tighten my stitches because I thought I was too loose with the L hook, but maybe I just need to loosen up a bit.

Anyway, this will be the 4th or 5th attempt at working the *1st* square! One of these days I’ll get it right and finally be able to move on.

Weekend was Good; Baby was Missed

I had a great weekend with my sister teaching her to knit and going yarn shopping. It was great but I missed my little munchkin and I know she missed me. DH and I video chat Saturday morning so I got to see Amelia via the computer and she got to see me, but it just wasn’t the same as being there physically. She had a great time with her daddy and they went out and played together lots, but I’m glad to be home with my little girl again.

She was super clingy yesterday and wouldn’t let me put her down. I practically held her all day long. She wouldn’t go to sleep either. She’d fall asleep in my arms and the second I leaned over her crib to lay her down she’s start bawling again. It was a rough day of her doing nothing but crying. I had to go out for a drive to get her to nap and that is so unlike her. She has never been this clingy before. She was pulling away from everyone that wanted to hold her (that she sees everyday).

It made me feel so guilty for leaving and being away. It’s horrible. It was only for 2 nights, but I guess to her it felt like forever. Don’t guess I’ll be doing that again anytime soon.

Sisterly Knitting

This weekend I taught my sister how to knit. She has begun two small beginner projects (a tank and a little handbag) as a result and is completely addicted. Woohoo!!

We visited two knit shops in Atlanta and had a blast. I bought some Rowan Linen Drape on sale for almost 1/2 off. Enough to make a sleeveless or short sleeve tank and best of all it’s white so it will match with anything. I also got a skein of Jitterbug, a few balls of Kureyon to make another Booga Bag and I got some really gorgeous sox stix in rosewood. Was going to do magic loop for my Jaywalkers, but I might have to use my pretty stix instead. :)

The two shops we visited were so different. One had a lot of novelty yarns and Berroco but also a few good classics like Debbie Bliss and some Rowan. The other one had no novelty yarn (which was great) and had yarns that aren’t as easy to find like Claudia Handpainted, Malabrigo, Blue Sky Alpaca and Artyarns. They also had a lot of Addi’s in stock and I got an Addi lace (47″) to make dad’s socks on magic loop. I really enjoyed both stores. The owners were really friendly and helpful and I’ll definitely be going back next time I’m up visiting my sis.

New Books

I ordered two books a while ago (200 Ripple Stitches and 200 Crochet Blocks) that were supposed to arrive today. Dumb me had them shipped to work instead of home. So, since I’m leaving early today to head out to Atlanta I’ll miss the delivery guy. If I’d had them shipped to the house, they would have arrived in time so I could have taken them with me.  Instead, now they will sit at the office all weekend and I won’t be able to get them til Monday. Darn!

Girls Weekend Out

I’m going up to Atlanta on Friday to spend the weekend with my sister. DH is staying home with Amelia. :) I might be teaching sis to knit. We’ll definitely be hitting up some knit shops, since I need some supplies. And we might go see the new Harry Potter movie. I’ve been looking forward to this weekend away for some time, but it will be a little tough…

You see, this is the first time I will be away from my baby girl overnight! Not sure how I’ll do, but I know it’s going to be tough going 2 days without her. I plan to take the laptop and hopefully DH and I can video chat so we can at least see each other.
