So today, I cleansed my scalp although it wasn’t really dirty. Then I soaked in conditioner and gel while still soaking wet. My hair felt really squishy and somewhat slimy. I used a t-shirt to squeeze excess water out, then plopped it with another t-shirt for about 8-10 minutes. I gently shook my hair out, then pushed my fingers into my scalp to give the hair a bit of lift in the front and arranged my curls so that I’d have somewhat of a part on one side and no weird curls sticking up on top of my head.
It took about 2 hours to air-dry and that included sitting in the car with the heater on for the last 30 minutes. Then I flipped it gently and scrunched out the crunch. It looks way better than it did yesterday. I still have a halo on the top where I don’t think I added as much conditioner and gel, but what a difference from yesterday. Yesterday it felt so dry and brittle. Today, it still feels dry, but not nearly as much. It looks softer and my curls are more defined today. Yesterday they looked a bit stringy. Today they look like curls.
With as dry as my hair is right now, I know I’m going to go through a ton of conditioner for a while. I also plan to do a deep condition this weekend when I have the time for it. I really need a good hair trimming as well. My curls are so uneven and I’m sure I’ve got way too many split ends…my last cut was in July of last year!
I’ve read some women put conditioner in their dry hair and leave it in overnight (sleeping with a satin cap on). I’m wondering how well that works. I might have to do a bit more research on it and possibly try that.
