Lacking Creativity in Words

I don’t consider myself a creative person, especially when it comes to words. Maybe that’s why I chose the profession I did. I’m a programmer, which deals more with logic than creativity.

Question in StonesSo as I try to fill my blog with semi-meaningful posts, I struggle to come up with a good title that will draw in readers. I know this is one of the most important things to consider. You need a title that will make a visitor want to come in and read the post.

But while I usually know what my post is about, I feel like I lack the creativity to come up with a captivating title that will make someone want to read the post.

I tend to throw up a title without much thought, because chances are, I’m coming here to post something in my head and I want to get it out before it disappears. So I don’t think much about the title. Lately though, I’ve been trying to focus on the title more in order to capture a potential reader’s attention.

At the same time I don’t want to lose my thoughts, so maybe I’ll throw up a title just to get something down. Then once my thoughts are written in the post, I can go back and ponder what I want to title the thing.

How do you do it? Do you write the post first, then try to title it? Do you start with your title, then tweak/change it once the post is written?

  1. As for me, I’ll start with the tittle, that is when I’m writing Blogs, but for articles, I prefer to write the content first ;)

  2. Usually my titles come to me at 3 a.m. when I can’t sleep. Or if I start with a title, I’ll change it a dozen times before it sounds right to me. Unfortunately I’m the only one it sounds right too. I think reading it out loud helps to find the right one.

    • See, I get those 3am epiphanies about my programming. I definitely think more logically. But yeah, I change my title a lot of times trying to find something that doesn’t should boring or cheesy. And many times, they still end up that way. :)

  3. p.s. Love your photo of the rocks.
