Exercise. That word that millions dread. I used to, but then I grew unhappy with my appearance in the mirror. It was like a turning point for me. In July of 2009, I began a new lifestyle. One that involved regular exercise and healthier eating. It worked! By October I had lost 18 lbs and at Thanksgiving I ran a 5K. I looked great and felt great. I went into maintenance mode.
Then in December I was in bed for a week sick with H1N1 and then the holidays hit. In February of 2010 I changed jobs and that meant new work hours.
A lot of life stuff got in the way and my new lifestyle suffered. I have since maintained what I call my happy weight. I’d prefer to be 5-10 lbs lighter, but I’m at the weight I can sustain with little effort.
But I feel like my overall health is suffering. I’ve been sedentary far too long and it’s time to get active again. I’d love to get to the point where I can run a half marathon. I don’t aspire to do a full marathon, but half would be very nice.
I’m going to make a huge effort to get back to running. I know I need to start out slowly. It’s going to take time for me to get to where I was 3 years ago.
I have to make the time. Dinner will have to be later. The family will have to give up the television for an hour in the evenings so I can do my workouts. I use DVDs and XBox Kinect. It’s how I started out last go round. After a while of doing that I was able to get out and run and I really enjoyed it. I will get back to it.
What’s your favorite way to get exercise and be active?
