Renewed Interest

For some reason, I’ve gotten a renewed interest in my blog. I would love to be able to write interesting content that brings in a lot of readers, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. Regardless, I’ve been tweaking things here and there and it’s been fun.

I’ve thought about starting a new blog, fresh content, slightly less personal, but I really don’t want to lose all these years of posts. This blog documents my pregnancy, the early years of motherhood, my journey in learning to knit and crochet, plus more. It my online journal of sorts and I don’t want to lose 8 years worth of my life by just tearing it down.

But the blog itself needs a new, fresh start, I think.  So I may have to export all my posts to my computer at home just so that I have the words stored somewhere, before I start over. And it may not be here. This blog might not stick around. I might end up going elsewhere to start over. Everyone knows who I am here. If I start over somewhere else, I might get a bit more of the anonymity I’m looking for.

Star BlanketIn other news, my sister is pregnant and we just found out I will have a nephew, Jordan. I’m super excited and I made the blanket at left for the little guy. I’m also making a few other items as well, as you can imagine, but I don’t have photos of them yet.

A Snake

The Snake

The crocheted snake I did for Amelia. Not perfect and my crochet skills are seriously lacking, but it’s cute and she likes it. That’s what matters. And it used up some stash yarn. :)

Tiramisu Abandoned

I’ve given up on the Tiramisu blanket. No matter what I do, I just can’t seem to keep 90 stitches in the row. I must be horrible at crochet, or the dark green yarn is throwing me off. I tried 4 times and it still wasn’t turning out right. First my gauge was off, instead of being 32″ across, I was at 23″. I know the border isn’t that wide. I finally went up 2 hook sizes and the width was right, but I still couldn’t manage to get the right # of stitches on each row.

So I’ve given up for now. I may try it another time, but for now I’m going to stick with my socks, knit afghan and lace shawl. Oh yeah, and at some point (after I finish the socks since I’m using those needles) I need to reknit my sleeves for my Minimalist Cardigan. gah!

Another Blanket

So much for my attempt at being a one-WIP gal. I started a new project today at work. I’m working the Tiramisu using TLC Essentials in Dark Thyme that I have in my stash from a previous granny square project I’ve decided to quit working on.

I’ve been doing so much knitting that I didn’t realize what I was doing and I grabbed the yarn with my right hand. I knit English and it was a habit. Then I realized what I did and decided to try to crochet that way. It worked, as long as I remembered to wrap the yarn opposite of how I would wrap for a knitted yarn over. Now I can say that I can crochet with yarn in either hand. :)

I’ll post pics of the project and add it to Ravelry once I have some progress made. So far I only have 2 rows, but I can already see that this project will go fairly quickly as long as I work on it regularly.

In other news, I finished sock one of my Handspun Campfire socks. Must cast on the second sock this weekend so I don’t fall into SSS.

Snip, Snip

I got into a kick to start sewing together some of the blocks in my gingham afghan. I have enough squares done to sew 3 rows together. So after a bit of research on sewing granny squares, I got home and got to it. I’m not particularly thrilled with how it’s turning out, but I’m following the instructions. I didn’t even make it through one row before I snipped my finger with the scissors trying to trim the ends. Ouch! Fortunately it was only a surface cut, but my pinkie is still a little sore. But I got a few squares sewn together.

Back is Done

I finished up the back of Blache (mom’s sweater) yesterday. I spent the whole weekend working on it, while DH was working. I think it turned out pretty cool. I like the cable pattern down the center. Now I must start the front, which is identical to the front. I hope I can finish it for her birthday on June 19. I also finished the right half of the front panel of Chamomile. I must join the yarn and work on the left side and that will be done in no time. After that, only the back panel left and that should go quick since it’s straight stockinette. I have a question…both Chamomile and Blanche require some edge work after it is seamed at the sides and shoulders. I know I’ll have to block in order to seam because of curling. So what kind of blocking should I use? Since I’ll be knitting with unblocked yarn onto a blocked sweater.

Oh and in other news, I have begun working on my Gingham and Ruffles afghan (crochet). It is done in 3 colors (light green, dark green and cream) and requires 315 squares to be crocheted then put together. Finally a ruffle is added all around the edge. It will be gorgeous and I’m excited about it. I’ve got 11 squares complete…only 304 to go! LOL! I’ve also started blocking the pieces for the first crochet afghan that I began way back when. I don’t have enough pins so I can only block 3 squares at a time. With 35 squares total, it’s taking a little while to get them all done, but I think once they are all blocked it will be much easier than I was expecting to sew them together.
